Protecting yourself against intruders

It is sometimes easy to feel vulnerable in your home, especially if you live by yourself. However, there are several steps you can take to keep yourself safe:

• Keep valuable items out of view and somewhere safe
• If you wish to leave a spare key for family members or neighbours, try and give it to them in person or purchase a secure keysafe – never hide keys under doormats or plant pots
• Always remember to lock your doors and windows whenever you leave your home – do this too when you are sleeping if you can
• Consider installing motion-activated lights, security cameras or a video doorbell
