Private rented property

In the UK, tenants in privately rented homes have a set of rights designed to protect their interests and ensure their safety. As a tenant, you have the right to live in a property that is safe and in a good state of repair.

You are entitled to have your deposit returned at the end of the tenancy, and in some cases, this deposit must be protected.

Tenants can challenge excessively high charges and have the right to know who their landlord is.

Additionally, tenants should be able to live undisturbed in the property, be protected from unfair eviction and unfair rent.

For tenancies longer than three years, a written agreement is typically required.
