Shopping services
Online shopping
If you can't go to the supermarket for your shopping, there are several options available.
Most supermarkets offer online shopping services, allowing you to choose a delivery slot for your groceries to be brought to your door.
There is usually a delivery notes box where you can provide information or request assistance, such as carrying the food into your kitchen or needing extra time to answer the door.
Below are some links to supermarkets that provide this service:
Supported shopping services
Supported shopping services help you to stay independent and get the groceries you need if you can't use online shopping delivery services. These services are useful if you want to do your own shopping but find it hard because of health issues, age or a disability.
Age UK provide multiple services including escorted services that, as well as helping with shopping, gives older people, particularly those who live on their own, the opportunity to get out and interact with others.
Personal assistants (PAs) and carers can help you with your food shopping. They can go to the store with you, help you find what you need, and carry your bags. If you prefer, they can do the shopping for you and make sure you get everything you need. They can also help with online shopping, placing orders, and arranging for home delivery.
Quiet shopping hours
Many supermarkets have a quieter shopping hour to make shopping easier if you find busy stores stressful. During these times, the lights are dimmed, noise is reduced, and other distractions are minimised.
Please see below a list of quiet shopping hours:
- Asda: Monday to Thursday between 2-3pm
- Lidl: Tuesday between 6pm-8pm
- Morrisons: Monday to Thursday between 2pm-3pm, Saturday between 9am-10am and Sunday for the first hour of opening.
- Tesco: Wednesday and Saturday between 9am-10am
