Food banks
Food banks are community organisations or charities that can help if you can’t afford the food you need. You’ll usually need to get a referral to a food bank before you can use it.
Food banks offer a variety of services including:
- Emergency food parcels: These contain non-perishable items like canned goods, pasta, rice, and cereals, as well as fresh produce when available
- Special dietary needs: Many food banks can accommodate special dietary requirements, such as gluten-free or diabetic-friendly foods
- Additional support: Some food banks offer advice and support on managing finances, assessing benefits, and finding other local services
