Carers card

What is a carers card?

A carers card officially identifies you as a carer and should be carried by you at all times. There is no charge for the card.

Main purposes of a carers card:
  • Emergency Notification: The card tells emergency services that someone you care for needs help if something happens to you.
  • Discounts and Benefits: The card gives you discounts at local health and wellbeing services, and some shops and businesses.
Additional benefits:
  • Support Services: The card helps you access support services like counselling and respite care.
  • Community: Being part of a carers network offers emotional support and practical advice.
  • Recognition: The card helps others recognise your role as a carer.

How do I get a carers card?

You can ask for a carers card from your local carers support organisation, a list of these can be found on the Kent County Council website.

Carers cards can also be purchased online from places like Cares Card UK. They provide a 2 year card for £8, you will receive both a physical and digital copy.
