Disabled Parking Scheme Badge

The disabled parking scheme, otherwise known as the Blue Badge scheme provides parking concessions for people with disabilities.

Here are the key points regarding the use of a Blue Badge:

Eligibility and Purpose:
  • A Blue Badge allows you to park close to your destination, whether you are a passenger or a driver.
  • It is intended for on-street parking only.
  • Different rules apply to off-street car parks, like those at shopping centres, hospitals, or supermarkets.
  • Concessions may vary in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, so it’s essential to check with the relevant authority.
Responsibilities:
  • The Blue Badge and its benefits are for your use only. If you misuse the badge, you could be fined and have the badge taken away.
  • Never give the badge to friends or family to use for parking benefits.
  • It is against the rules to have a copied badge or change its details.
  • The badge belongs to the local council, and they can take it back if it's misused.
Who Can Use the Badge:

Display the badge if you are traveling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger.

  • It's okay to use the badge when someone is picking you up or dropping you off.
  • Don't let others use the badge for their own needs, like shopping or free parking.
  • People who are not disabled should not use the badge benefits while you stay in the car.
Displaying the Badge:
  • Put the badge on the dashboard or front panel where it can be seen through the front windscreen.
  • If there's no dashboard, place it somewhere visible from outside the vehicle.
  • Make sure the hologram side is facing up, and the photo side is not visible through the windscreen.
  • If the badge details are hard to read, please ask for a new one.
