Disabled Parking Scheme Badge

The disabled parking scheme, otherwise known as the Blue Badge scheme provides parking concessions for people with disabilities.

Here are the key points regarding the use of a Blue Badge:

Eligibility and Purpose:

  • A Blue Badge allows you to park close to your destination, whether you are a passenger or a driver.
  • It is intended for on-street parking only.
  • Separate rules apply to off-street car parks (such as those at shopping centers, hospitals, or supermarkets).
  • Concessions may vary in other parts of the UK (Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland), so it’s essential to check with the relevant authority.

Responsibilities:

  • The Blue Badge and its concessions are for your use only.
Misusing the badge is a criminal offense and can result in a fine and badge confiscation.
  • Never give the badge to friends or family to benefit from parking concessions.
  • Using a copied badge or altering its details is prohibited.
The badge remains the property of the issuing local council, and they can request its return if misused.

Who Can Use the Badge:

Display the badge if you are traveling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger.

  • It’s also valid when someone is collecting or dropping you off.
Do not allow others to use the badge for their purposes (e.g., shopping or parking for free).
  • Non-disabled individuals should not take advantage of the benefits while you remain in the car.

Displaying the Badge:

  • Place the badge on the dashboard or facia panel, visible through the front windscreen.
  • If no dashboard exists, display it where it can be seen from outside the vehicle.
  • Ensure the hologram side faces up, and the photograph side is not visible through the windscreen.
  • Legibility of the badge details is crucial; replace it if they become unreadable.
